London, July 3, 1973. Near the end of his concert at the Hammersmith Odeon, the last stop on a tour of the United Kingdom, Bowie asked for the attention of the audience. His thank-you began conventionally but then elicited an anguished outcry from the fans: "Of all the concerts on this tour, this is the one that will stay with us the longest.
